As long as you play hard and dress properly, paintball can be a great sport for everyone, even when you lose every game. It is probably the most fun you can play without having to strictly military war-games with weapons equipped with flash suppressors, laser sights, round and white.
Goggles, chest / neck protectors, and masks come in all shapes and sizes for paintball, and they can all be very expensive items. Yet, when you get stuck in an area not covered you know how quickly you need all the above. If you're worried about your budget, craigslist search and e-bay first. Sometimes, if you search for "free" section on craigslist you could even find someone to unload all their gear or give one point they were just replaced with something new. If cost is not an obstacle, get the best price to buy equipment and do all your opponents and teammates jealous. Remember that more expensive products are not always better. Ask around and see what is used by people most and what works best.
Regarding clothing, remember to dress in layers, no matter how hot it is. Paintball involves lots of hiding and running and is usually in wooded areas where if you overheat, you can find a place to the shadows to hide easily. Just drink plenty of water to compensate for wearing three or four layers.
Start first by underwear long and thick socks. Next should be a sticky-sleeved shirt and a pair of tight spandex or sweat pants. Finally, you will find Cammo some dark or outerwear. Try to obtain official military fatigues, if you can. Also known as BDUs (Battle Dress Uniforms), you can obtain the fatigue of all sizes and all sorts of models for every terrain from jungle to desert.
Before making a purchase, if you need to check the signs that you are getting the real deal, not cheap imitations. Real fatigues made for use by military Americans are made in the USA, not China. My own fatigue, issued by the United States Air Force Academy, are 50% cotton and 50% nylon, made by Golden Manufacturing Company Golden, MS. My cousin had bought a set of fatigues that were virtually identical in appearance to mine, but they were made by a company called Atlanco and were actually manufactured in China. The big difference at the close inspection was the thickness of the material. The Made in China pair of fatigues were very thin and light. The truths are thick and durable and may not be available in too many stores. Even Army / Navy Stores may try to sell imitations as the real deal, then think of the tag manufacturing gold or find someone in your family in the army who is your size and has some extra hardships he or she is no longer used.
Of course, you also want a great pair of boots who do you weigh too much, but the wear will not be under pressure. Hi-Tec made affordable shoes that feel like sneakers and are perfect for running or walking in. Their backpack and light models hiking boot is perfect for paintball.
Simply doing and thinking smart first of your most sensitive areas. If you do not feel like a direct hit from tingling in a certain area of your body, cover it as best you can.
